Winter camping gear from the Yosemite Mountaineering School
The All Day Camping Equipment & Accessory Rental is operated by the Yosemite Mountaineering School — the program that runs Badger Pass's backcountry tours and overnight ski trips. The gear is rated for Yosemite winter conditions, which is real winter (subzero nights are common at 7,200ft).
What's typically available
- Four-season tents — built for snow loads and winter wind
- Cold-weather sleeping bags — rated to the temperatures you'll actually see
- Sleeping pads — insulated for snow camping
- Stoves and cooksets — fuel canisters typically sold at the shop
- Backcountry skis / AT setups — for the ski-tour overnight trips
- Avalanche safety equipment — beacons, probes, shovels (mandatory in avi terrain)
Who books this
- Anyone booking a Self-Guided Overnight Trip who doesn't already own winter camping gear
- Participants in the Guided Overnight or 2-Night Guided Overnight who need to supplement personal gear
- Custom Tour bookings where the guide specifies what to rent
If you're doing a guided day snowshoe you don't need any of this — those tours are day-trips out of the lodge.
Important note: this is serious gear for serious conditions
Winter camping at 7,200ft in Yosemite is not casual gear-testing territory. If you've never winter-camped before, book the Guided Overnight first — you'll learn the systems and skills under a professional guide before going self-guided. Bad winter camping is dangerous; this isn't a place to learn by trial and error.
