The kids' program at Badger Pass

Badger Pups is the Yosemite Ski & Snowboard School's dedicated beginner program for children ages 4 to 6. Everything is built for that age range — instructor ratios, lesson pace, equipment sizes, terrain selection, even snack and bathroom break timing.

What's included

  • Lift access to the kids' learning area and lower lifts
  • Kids' equipment — appropriately-sized skis, snowboard, boots, helmet
  • Structured lessons with instructors who specialize in this age group
  • Supervised play and practice time between formal lessons
  • Snack and bathroom breaks built into the day

Why Badger Pass for kids

The terrain alone is a strong argument. The Badger Pass lower mountain is unusually forgiving for a real ski resort — wide, gentle, sun-exposed greens with no surprises. Kids who would freeze up at Heavenly or Northstar progress confidently here because nothing is scary.

The school's age-specific approach matters too. The instructors who teach Badger Pups have done it for years. They know which 5-year-old needs a snack, which one needs to be challenged, and which one needs a hug and a hot chocolate before they'll try again. That's not in the brochure, but it's why families come back.

Older kids (7+)

Kids 7 and older are typically better served by the standard adult lesson packages with age-appropriate grouping. Book Master the Slopes or Introduction to Downhill for them — they'll get to use the full mountain instead of just the kids' learning area, and the instruction can move faster.
