Badger Pass base lodge cafeteria
Cafeteria-style — sandwiches, hot soup, pizza, hot dogs, fries, snacks, hot drinks. Open during operating hours. Reasonable quality and the prices are not painful by ski-resort standards. The picnic tables on the deck have nice views on a sunny day. Tip: eat before 11:45 AM or after 1:15 PM to skip the lunch rush.
In Wawona (17 miles, 25-30 min from Badger)
The Wawona Hotel Dining Room
Old California park-lodge dining: white tablecloths, traditional menu, a meaningful upgrade over typical park-area food. Reservations recommended on weekends. Winter hours may be reduced — call before you go.
Wawona General Store
Small grocery selection — basic ingredients, sandwiches, drinks. Useful if you're cooking at a vacation rental and need to fill in. Limited winter hours.
In Yosemite Valley (21 miles, 45-50 min from Badger)
The Mountain Room (Yosemite Valley Lodge)
Yosemite Valley Lodge's main dining room. A casual upscale dinner spot — pasta, fish, steak, salads. View of Yosemite Falls (lit at night) from many tables. Reservations recommended.
Base Camp Eatery (Yosemite Valley Lodge)
Casual cafeteria-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Valley Lodge. The most convenient option if you're staying at the Lodge or want a quick meal.
The Ahwahnee Dining Room
Yosemite's most famous restaurant — vaulted timber ceilings, candlelit tables, white tablecloth service. Premium pricing. Reservations essential, often months in advance for weekend dinners. Worth it once even if you're not staying there.
Degnan's Kitchen & The Loft (Yosemite Village)
Quick service breakfast/lunch in Yosemite Village. Loft has pizza and casual dinner.
Curry Village Pavilion & Pizza Patio
Buffet-style and pizza, casual, family-friendly. Winter operations may be limited.
Outside the park: Fish Camp & Oakhurst
Tenaya Lodge restaurants (Fish Camp)
Multiple options — the Sierra Restaurant (upscale), Jackalope's Bar & Grill (casual), and an Italian spot. The Tenaya is its own destination resort, with the best concentrated dining options near the park's south entrance.
Oakhurst (45-60 min from Badger)
The closest town with full restaurant variety. Chain restaurants (multiple), some local spots, and grocery stores (Vons, Raley's) — useful if you're stocking a vacation rental kitchen. Worth a stop on the drive in.
For vacation rental cooking
If you're staying at Yosemite West or in a Wawona-area cabin, planning to cook in is the standard play. Stock up at:
- Vons or Raley's in Oakhurst — best selection, last stop on the way in for most people
- Wawona General Store — small but useful for top-offs once you're in the park
- The Village Store in Yosemite Valley — surprisingly well-stocked for a national park store, though pricier
Pre-make and freeze a few meals at home to bring with you. Saves time, money, and the disappointment of mediocre last-minute meals after a long ski day.
